Since 1 September 2015 Denmark has allowed dual citizenship. You may hold Danish citizenship together with the citizenship of another country, provided the other country also permits it. If you obtained a foreign citizenship before 1 September 2015 and lost your Danish citizenship as a result, you may have been eligible for reacquisition - see below.
The reacquisition scheme for former Danish citizens who lost their citizenship when acquiring a foreign nationality was open from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2026 and has now closed. Applications submitted before the deadline are still being processed. If you missed the deadline, contact us and we will assess your remaining options.
We carry out an assessment of your case and review the individual conditions to obtain citizenship in Denmark. The assessment can be done in person, by email, by telephone or through an online meeting. The assessment is usually free, but in certain complicated cases, we will charge a fixed consultation fee of 2.500,- DKK (app. 365 USD) for the assessment.
If both parties decide to proceed mutually with the application process, we will send you a quotation for our consultancy, including the onuses of the consultancy. Our fee is fixed, which means that you know your cost in advance.
We will assist you in completing the application correctly, as well as assisting you in providing the necessary documentation. We will handle all communication with the relevant authorities, and continuously follow up on your case. We will also advise you until the citizenship it is obtained.

Danish citizens who lost their Danish citizenship by acquiring another citizenship could between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2026 apply to have their Danish citizenship restored. The scheme expired on 30 June 2026 - if you submitted an application before the deadline, your case will still be processed, and we would be happy to advise you on your options.

The processing time for applications to prove or retain Danish citizenship is currently about 13-15 months from the point when the Ministry of Immigration and Integration receives the application.
When you apply for Danish citizenship by naturalisation, the Ministry of Immigration and Integration examines whether you meet the requirements. If you do, the Ministry may place you on a list that twice a year is turned into a bill granting you citizenship. Preparing this list normally takes 2-3 months, and you must continue to meet the requirements until the bill is passed.
Pending reacquisition cases still have a processing time of about 18-20 months from the point when the Ministry of Immigration and Integration received the application.
