Denial of asylum to Denmark
If the Danish Immigration Services has rejected your application for asylum to Denmark, the case will automatically go in front of the Danish Immigration Appeals Board more particularly the Refugee Appeals Board.
In this case, you have the right to be represented by a lawyer that will plead your case in front of the board.
You have a right to choose your own lawyer in this process. If you don't wish to choose your own lawyer, the Danish Immigration Appeals Board will provide you with legal representation.
Costs are covered by Danish government

Asylum in Denmark
Applying for asylum in Denmark is a serious decision, often taken under difficult circumstances. If you fear for your life or your freedom in your home country on grounds of race, religion, political opinion or membership of a particular social group, you may have the right to apply for asylum in Denmark.

How do you apply for asylum?
Contact with the police: You must contact the police as soon as possible after arrival in Denmark. The police will register your application and give you information about the asylum process.
Asylum centre: After registration you will be placed in an asylum centre. There you will be offered food, shelter and health services.
Asylum interview: You will be called to an interview with the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen), where you tell your story and the reasons why you are applying for asylum.
Awaiting the decision: After the interview, the Danish Immigration Service will assess your case and make a decision on whether you are granted asylum or not.

What happens if you are granted asylum?
Residence permit: If you are granted asylum, you receive a residence permit that gives you the right to live in Denmark.
Integration programme: You will be offered an integration programme where you can learn Danish and get help finding work.

What happens if your asylum application is refused?
Removal: If you receive a refusal, you must leave Denmark.
Option to complain: You have the option of complaining about the decision to the Immigration Appeals Board (Udlændingenævnet).

Refusal of asylum in Denmark
When the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) has given you a refusal on asylum in Denmark, the case is automatically appealed to the Refugee Appeals Board (Flygtningenævnet).
In that connection you have the right to have a lawyer assigned to represent your interests during the Refugee Appeals Board's consideration of your case.
You have an unconditional right to choose your own lawyer. If you do not wish to choose a lawyer yourself, the Refugee Appeals Board will assign one to you.

Legal costs are covered
The costs of the lawyer's work are covered by the Refugee Appeals Board (Flygtningenævnet). You will therefore not be charged any legal costs. This applies regardless of the outcome of the case. It is thus free of charge for you to be represented by a lawyer during the Refugee Appeals Board's consideration of your case.
