To avoid potential immigration issues, it's crucial to obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Denmark, especially if you haven't received your residence card yet. This document will allow you to re-enter the country legally and continue your residence permit process.

You have either submitted an application for a residence permit in Denmark due to asylum, family reunification, or religious work, or you have applied for a permanent residence permit. You can also have a work permit in Denmark, but have to leave the country for any reason before receiving a decision in your case - or you simply have not received your residence permit card yet.

If you're a foreign national in Denmark without a valid residence card and plan to travel abroad, you'll likely need a re-entry permit to return. This applies to those who have:

  • Submitted a first-time residence permit application
  • Submitted a residence permit extension application
  • Submitted a new residence permit application

However, if your application for extension is likely to be rejected or if you're expecting your new residence card before your trip, you may not be eligible for a re-entry permit.

Remember: Always consult with the Danish Immigration Service or a qualified immigration lawyer to ensure you meet all the specific requirements and avoid any potential issues.

A re-entry permit lets you travel outside of Denmark while your residence permit application is being processed. It ensures that you can return to Denmark and continue your stay legally.

The permit is typically valid for a specific period, usually up to 90 days, and requires a valid passport. The permit will most likely only be valid for a specific trip you are going on. It is your own responsibility to keep an eye out for the permits validity.

You may be eligible for a re-entry permit if you:

  • Have a pending residence permit application: This includes initial applications and extensions.
  • Are registered in the Central Person Register (CPR): This is typically a requirement for obtaining a re-entry permit after applying for an extension.
  • Have a valid passport: Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the validity period of the re-entry permit.

Important Considerations:

  • Purpose of Travel: Your trip must have a clear purpose and be for a limited duration.
  • Documentation: You may need to provide evidence of your travel plans, such as flight tickets or other relevant documents.
  • Legal Residence: It's crucial to maintain a legal status in Denmark throughout the process.
  • Consult an Immigration Lawyer: For complex cases or specific questions, consulting an immigration lawyer can provide valuable guidance.

Please note: Immigration rules can change, so it's always best to consult the latest information from the Danish Immigration Service or seek professional advice.

Navigating the complex immigration process can be daunting, especially when it comes to obtaining a re-entry permit. Globe Advokater can provide expert guidance and support throughout the entire process.
